9TH International Symposium on Scanning Probe Microscopy & Optical Tweezers in Life Sciences Home Page

The event covers the applications of scanning probe microscopy (SPM) and optical tweezers technology to areas including biophysical, biochemical and medical research, stimulating fruitful discussions between the scientific communities of these complementary techniques. Leaders in the field together with novices are encouraged to learn from each other, discuss the presentations and share their experiences.

This year’s speakers come from Europe and Canada and will present new research results on a wide variety of topics, ranging from reports on protein folding to the high speed AFM imaging of fibrils. Measuring mechanical properties of biomaterials is a feature of talks this year. These include soft biomolecular films using a new combination of AFM and microinterferrometry. For the optical tweezers interest, presentations on high speed manipulation and a means of moving the cell nucleus look particularly innovative.

The meeting will feature poster sessions where delegates are invited to showcase their work to their peers making it a most interactive scientific meeting. On both days a panel of judges made up of the invited speakers will award prizes to the authors of the top three posters.
