Nanomanipulation, Nanomechanics and 3D Reconstruction
are the key-technologies pursued in a collaborative project between Sheffield and Nottingham Universities, centred in the Department of Materials, University of Sheffield.
Fully funded PhD project studentships for three years are available for immediate application, inclusive of overseas candidates, with any start date between now and 1st Jan 2006.
The research area covers Focused Ion Beam microscopy for nanoscale patterning and imaging, nanoindentation studies with high spatial resolution, mechanical properties of MEMS/NEMS devices, 3D Reconstruction of nanoobjects by tomographic techniques, characterisation of nanoporous and nanocomposite materials.
Interest in electron microscopy, computer data processing, and physical and chemical properties specific to the nanoscale are most desirable. A good graduate-level qualification is a formal prerequisite.
