Nanosys and Sharp Expand Collaboration on Nanotechnology-Enabled Fuel Cells

Nanosys, Inc. today announced the expansion and extension of its collaborative agreement with Sharp Corporation, of Osaka, Japan, to develop nanotechnology enabled fuel cells incorporating Nanosys' proprietary nanostructure technology. Under the terms of the agreement, Sharp will fund the joint development efforts at Nanosys and Sharp towards developing high performance fuel cells for use in portable consumer electronics such as laptop computers, cell phones, and multimedia devices. Financial details of the agreement were not disclosed.

"Sharp and Nanosys have made exceptional progress towards developing fuel cell technology for use in portable electronic products," said Dr. Kenji Ohta, Sharp's Chief Technology Officer. "This expanded collaboration underscores our successful working relationship and Sharp's confidence in Nanosys' technology to address the exciting opportunities in the portable power market."

"As portable electronic devices continue to expand in capability, the need for increased battery power within smaller and lighter packages will be critical to their success," said Calvin Chow, Nanosys' Chief Executive Officer. "We are very pleased to be expanding our collaboration with an industry leader like Sharp to address this market opportunity."
