City officials are considering spending $71,000 toward helping a technology company establish itself in High Point.
QuarTek International Inc., a startup company dealing in nanotechnology research, plans to invest $3 million to $4 million in a facility and equipment at Piedmont Centre over the next several years, according to High Point Economic Development Corp.
The move would create 10 jobs with an average annual salary of $70,000, with the possibility of adding 10 to 20 jobs in the future.
The city is proposing to offer $71,400 in economic development incentives for site improvements at 4180 Piedmont Parkway. High Point City Council will hold a public hearing at 5:30 p.m. Monday to hear comments on the proposal.
The council has already been briefed on the company's intentions during closed-session meetings.
Councilman At Large John Faircloth said he believes most of the higher paying scientific jobs will be filled by people outside of the Triad. But with those positions, Faircloth said, will come a need for administrative and support jobs that can easily be recruited locally.
